death metal should be done rather raw, not too melodic.
this band's pretty good though. _________________ Tempus Fugit |

I think the lyrics in death should not get restrained to murder, war, gore, torture and so on but of course they also must not be related to "happy" contents.
Kakfa didn´t need explicit violence for making his works really disgusting...
But for the music, you are right Angelripper; Death just cannot be soft or melodic. _________________ So let the children come to me.

Of course death metal can be melodic... Melody has nothing with heaviness to do, why would distorted guitars, guttural vocals and tight drumming make the music any less melodic?? _________________

hahhaha i havent listened to them but I'll use my better judgement and not waste my time...death metal should be about brutality and aggression, whether it be fast or slow _________________ "Dimi, you don´t understand... he is the betrayer in here. But I get pissed off when people think melodic means "not heavy"... Deicide has lots of melody in their music for example... _________________

@Vacceo:
I think Ken was referring more to the music than the lyrics when he said "boiling over with violence and hatred" and I agree with him too. fuck the "melodic death metal" and "technical/brutal death metal" trend movements that have taken attention away from greats such as GOSPEL OF THE HORNS and KAAMOS _________________ KHAN

that is (as Nemesis said) VERY untrue....
I won't even start to list all heavy, yet melodic songs there are....
just mention Dream Theater: Melodic and heavy in about every song on every album.(except the ballads) _________________ Enter The Realm Of Sadistic

Real Death Metal = GRAVE
Anyway, I dont like "happy" melodies in death metal, thats suck. But some melodic death metal bands is great, like death/pestilence (testimony album) etc...
Best death metal is the old raw ones, like Grave, Dismember, Morbid Angel, etc... _________________ musical destruction is our outbreak |

why is it bullshit? because most bands totally suck at making melodic parts? and because it doesnt fit into the music at all? it totally annoys me when I see bands considering themselves DEATH METAL and then they play this useless lovely shit...which sometimes sounds as if it was ment to be played on MTV beside of this nu metal crap.
Death metal doesn't need to be totally raw but here's a good example of what a real known band does:
Morbid Angel are also melodic at times but these parts still fit in the atmosphere (because the melodies are sick or how you want to explain it) and it doesn't sound totally lovely just like what most bands do...
Iron Maiden are death metal?
For them, these parts actually fit into the music.. _________________ Tempus Fugit |

and what do you actually mean with "you either play death metal or not"???
"melodic death metal is not death metal"
???
how can you say that?
just because you dont like melodic death metal, you will say that it isnt death metal???
thats indeed bullshit, just like i said in the post above...
so now know why i said its plain bullshit???
melodic death metal is just another sub-genre of death metal and thats a fact. If it wasnt, it wouldnt say so everywhere you can read it. _________________

What do you consider "technical/brutal death metal"? Yattering??
Anyway, some propaganda of our local bands is not so bad so take a look at bands like Avulsed, Human Mincer, Exhumed Day, Kevlar Skin or Between the Frost. _________________ So let the children come to me.

Maybe, but many of the classic Florida death metal bands were melodic as well... Angel Of Disease by Morbid Angel is a great example using melody in death metal without ruining any heaviness... _________________
